This book covers hard and soft commodities (energy, agriculture and metals) and analyses: Economic and geopolitical issues in commodities markets Commodity price and volume risk Stochastic modelling of commodity spot prices and forward curves Real options valuation and hedging of physical assets in the energy industry It is required reading for energy companies and utilities practitioners, commodity cash and derivatives traders in investment banks, the Agrifood business, Commodity Trading Advisors (CTAs) and Hedge Funds.
Rational pricing - Rational pricing is the assumption in financial economics that asset prices (and hence asset pricing models) will reflect the arbitrage-free price of the asset as any deviation from this price will be "arbitraged away". This assumption is useful in pricing fixed income securities, particularly bonds, and is fundamental to the pricing of derivative instruments. Foreign exchange option - In finance, a foreign exchange option (commonly shortened to just FX option) is a derivative where the owner has the right but not the obligation to exchange money denominated in one currency into another currency at a pre-agreed exchange rate on a specified date. Monte Carlo option model - A Monte Carlo model, in its most general description, includes any method of estimating a value by the random generation of numbers and statistical principles. As a way of pricing or valuing options, Monte Carlo option models use a pseudo-random sequence, one that will be random enough the simulate a range of outcomes yet deterministic enough to reproduce when necessary. Freight derivative - A Freight derivative is a financial instrument for trading in future levels of freight rates, primarily for dry bulk carriers and tankers. Such instruments include exchange traded futures contracts and options on futures contracts, plus OTC (over-the-counter) freight forward contracts like FFAs (Forward Freight Agreements) swaps and swaptions.
